Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is literally a turd trying to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is easy to grasp: press a jump control. Throughout numerous challenges, you'll face boss fights and unlock a market to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.
Execute your movements carefully, since one mistake forces restarting the level. Jump using floating orbs to propel yourself to new heights, navigate disappearing ledges, and interact with buttons to unlock new areas. Collect coins for buying more difficult game content as things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience features neon environments and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style with morphing geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name previous releases where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. And of course, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on computers in the fall.
