Disturbing Footage Shows Instant Officers Are Stabbed in Surprise Attack
One police sergeant who jumped to the help of a colleague that was assaulted by a blade-wielder received the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a road collision in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman attacked," the constable stated over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording shared by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.
He struck the policeman who tripped and dropped to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being continually attacked with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, concluding the fight to an end.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide assistance on my throat here, I got knifed in the throat."
Sgt Ansell suffered two lacerations to his throat and more injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.
The department reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders came.
This most recent award follows after the three officers were granted internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional Police Federation in early 2024.
They additionally received a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The actions of the entire team eventually protected themselves and ensured no members of the public endured any wounds."
Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, per authorities.
